Point of Sale

Point of sale is the time and place at which a retail transaction is completed.

Why improve your Point of Sale experience?

Although 61% of shoppers1 would rather shop with brands that also have a physical location over brands that are online only, more than 70% of surveyed consumers2 said the checkout experience is their biggest pain point.

Amazon Go

Amazon opened physical convenience stores around the United States called Amazon Go, which uses Just Walk Out Technology. It aims to optimise the point of sale (POS) experience as much as possible by having no registers or cashiers.

Customers are only required to log into their Amazon accounts via their mobile app. They can do their shopping and just leave the store upon completion without going through cash register queues. Amazon uses a combination of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and data pulled from multiple sensors to keep track of the items customers walk out of the store with.

How can you improve your Point of Sale experience?

Creating a seamless point of sale experience doesn’t have to be so hard. Use one of these 4 different technologies to transform the point of sale experience:

  1. RFID Tags – Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags enable a seamless checkout experience, allowing guests to checkout almost immediately. This self-checkout system scans all items on the shopping cart without having to read each item individually.3
  1. Scan-and-go – Using an app-based scan-and-go feature allows customers to scan and pay for their items directly through their mobile phones. This eliminates waiting in queues, tracks customer spending and limits interactions within the store, which is especially relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  1. Just Walk Out – Just Walk Out is a checkout system placed in the shopping cart. By leveraging artificial intelligence and computer vision, the system is able to scan the items in the cart and charges the customer accordingly. This technology is unique as it doesn’t require any effort from the consumer.
  1. EVRYTHNG – EVRYTHNG is a company that places unique digital identifiers onto individual products, extending the checkout process beyond leaving the store itself. The identifiers interact with customers’ smartphones, digitally transforming the relationship between the product and consumer. It has the potential to interact with the other products in your store, remind the customer when a product has not been used for a while, and even provide them with an appropriate outfit for an event on their calendar.
