Decoding the twimbit purpose

Three things inspired us as we embarked on our journey to build “twimbit”.

  1. We founded “twimbit” to serve society. A source of inspiration is Sumitomo Corporation, a leading Japanese conglomerate founded over 400 years ago. It’s simple yet profound business philosophy deep rooted in its mission to serve society has enabled it to continue to evolve over four centuries. https://www.sumitomocorp.com/en/jp/ir/english_ir-report/2013/corporate/index.html. Key learnings we try to imbibe:
    • “Put your heart into everything you do”
    • “Place prime importance on integrity and sound management in the conduct of business”
    • “Not only in matters of business but in all situations, make efforts with the deepest gratitude in all aspect.”
  2. We sought an unmet need that we were better placed as a group of individuals to address. That unmet need is to “democratize research”. We are passionate about making it easy, fun to consume and embedding it seamlessly into our daily lives. We believe that the joy that we experience in our personal consumption of information and entertainment through social networks can be replicated in the world of research and knowledge. We can improve outcomes for companies, individuals and society if we can help increase the per capita consumption of research.
  3. The Business Roundtable which is an association of chief executive officers of America’s leading companies announced the release of a new Statement on the Purpose of a Corporation. This was signed by 181 CEOs who made a commitment to lead their companies for the benefit of all stakeholders – customers, employees, suppliers, communities and shareholders. This has deeply influenced on how we would like to build twimbit. We will do our very best to ensure we serve all our five stakeholders in equal measure.
